I attempted to upgrade my Mac Mini (late 2012) from the stock 4gb of ram to 8gb. However, I messed up and didn't pay attention when buying the ram online and ordered 1x8gb stick rather than 2x4.
I don't know. I probably still have a 2012 Mac Mini somewhere in the cupboard and will test this soon. • 2013/2014 MBA and MBPr models came with 1024MB out of the box. This was also increased to 1536MB after installing OSX 10.9.3 There might be more models that have received a free VRAM upgrade in the past but I have no direct records of these.
OWC is my usual go-to online store for RAM. But I purchased 16GB from Crucial because it is $82 vs. Both stores are highly rated by consumers. Both OWC and Crucial make it very easy to find the correct RAM for your Mac. You just need to know which Mac you own; no fussing around with arcane RAM technical specifications. Newegg and similar retailers? And there seem to be more problems associated with buying RAM intended for Macs.

So, yeah, militant environmentalists will appreciate the efficiency improvements, but for everyone else, such improvements are only a small bonus that’s likely to go unnoticed. A Holding Pattern? But questions over the new model’s underpowered components and the timing of its release remain. If you want an SSD towards the top end, the 250GB Samsung 860 Evo is $78, the Crucial MX500 is $70 (at Amazon). Both have 5-year warranties. For 500GB, it's $118 and $110, respectively. Over your limit, but worth going $10 over your budget, IMO.
OWC is saying that the late 2012 Mac Mini uses DDR3L-1600 memory, where the “L” means “low voltage”, in this case 1.35 V instead of the standard 1.5 V for DDR3. The iFixit teardown says that the late 2012 Mac Mini uses PC3-12800 (DDR3-1600), with no mention of the low voltage. Apple’s specification page at also says PC3-12800 without mentioning low voltage. Is this a case of OWC being certain that the lower voltage memory is compatible with the Mac Mini, e.g.

It is an old core2duo and been running great for over seven years now. I could get it to run for quite a lot longer I believe. The only problem is battery life and it would be considered heavy now for a laptop. The optical drive is not used anymore and I would like a Retina display but I'll keep waiting for Macs to improve with each iteration and when I really need one or this Macbook stops working then I'll buy the best available. Once USB-C conquers all the ports (or at least the majority of them) a new style chassis should be implemented for the Retina Macbook Pro. How to disable notifications for shared photo streams on mac.
